Arranging and planning of the airport occurred in 2003 and development started in 2005. The airplane terminal and runway has been constructed 5 kilometers (3.1 mi) east of the more seasoned Doha global airplane terminal. It is spread more than a zone of 2,200 hectares (5,500 sections of land) and was situated to at first serve carriers that won't use parlor access.
Hamad International Airport has been intended to provide food for an anticipated progressing increment in the volume of movement. The air terminal has an introductory yearly limit of 29 million travelers. This is three times the present volume. Upon fruition, it will have the capacity to handle 50 million travelers for every year, albeit a few assessments propose the airplane terminal could deal with up to 93 million for each year. This figure makes it the second biggest airplane terminal in the district after Dubai. It is additionally anticipated that would handle 320,000 flying machine developments and 2 million tons of load yearly. The registration and retail territories are relied upon to be 12 times bigger than those at the present airplane terminal. The air terminal will be 66% the extent of Doha city.
The airplane terminal has a desert garden themed motif. A hefty portion of the structures will have a water theme, with wave-styled rooftops and desert plants developing in reused water.
The Steering Committee recompensed the agreement for the advancement of the air terminal to Bechtel. The agreement incorporates the outline, development administration, and venture administration of the offices. The structural engineering firm, HOK, composed the terminal and concourses. Designing, Procurement and Construction contract for Phase I and II were embraced by Turkish TAV Construction and Japanese Taisei Corporation.
